These Are Not the Droids You’re Looking For: Jedi Mind Tricks for Activists

August 10, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Join us at Skepticon 11!

If we were Jedi, the only persuasive technique we’d need would be a wave of the hand. Sadly, we do not live in the Star Wars universe, so if we want to be persuasive, we need to learn how. Drawing on years of experience working with persuasion expert Prof. Gary Orren and activist guru Prof. Marshall Ganz at the Harvard Kennedy School, Dr. James Frey Croft will teach ten practical persuasion techniques in this fun interactive workshop. In addition, all participants will receive a free persuasion guide they can use to plan future campaigns. The session will be held in Colonnade F.

James Croft is an Ethical Culture Leader and Outreach Director at the Ethical Society of St. Louis. He never stops talking, so it’s lucky that his job requires a lot of it! As Outreach Director for the Society, James is a public face for the community, ensuring that Ethical Humanist values are represented at rallies and protests, in schools and universities, and in the media. James believes that our culture desperately needs a Humanist moral voice, and he’s determined to provide one. You can often find James yelling through a megaphone or posting on Facebook. He loves Star Trek way too much, and tries to find a way to work a Star Trek reference into every Platform Address.
