Ethical Society Annual Membership Meeting
May 16 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The Annual Membership Meeting will be held Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. in the Becker Room. The first half-hour is an opportunity to socialize with fellow members and enjoy a dessert potluck. Please bring a dessert to share; coffee and tea will be provided. The formal meeting begins promptly at 7:30 p.m.
Ask questions based on the Annual Report, and vote on important items including Board elections, the Strategic Plan, the 2019-20 budget, and approval for hiring James Croft to become the Senior Leader of the Ethical Society beginning in June 2020.
The slate of nominees for Board positions includes Stephane Sigala for President-Elect, Tom Draney for Secretary, and Ray Preston and Kayla Vaughan for Trustee.
The proposed budget is included in the Annual Report, along with the meeting agenda, minutes from last year’s meeting, and reports from the Leaders, staff, committees, and teams. Members can pick up a hard copy at the Society office or call Nancy Jelinek (314-991-0955 x214) to have one mailed to them.
All active members of the Ethical Society are eligible to vote. If you cannot attend the meeting, please complete an absentee ballot and mail it or drop it off in the office in time by May 15. You can access the ballot in the online Annual Report.
At the Leader Transition Town Hall there was confusion regarding the bylaws language on voting. The Governance Committee examined the by-laws and reviewed the Society’s voting procedures going back to 2005. The precedent is clear: an affirmative vote of two-thirds of the ballots cast by active members are required to hire a Leader.
