Free
EndRacism800x450

Bob McMullen will lead a discussion focusing on the PBS Video “Freedom Summer,” a 2014 documentary which tells the story of 10 weeks in the summer of 1964 when more than 700 student volunteers joined with organizers and local African Americans in a historic effort to shatter the foundations of white supremacy in Mississippi, one of the nation’s most segregated states. They faced intimidation and violence which led to the death of 3 of the workers. We will view some clips and discuss the importance of voter registration and protecting the rights of all to vote, then and now. The video is available at the St. Louis County Library if you want to view it all, and there are several books about it as well.
