Outings
December 12: Who Dung It? Add-on
Kids ages 7 – 11 can become a scatologist (one who studies excrement) and discover how scat can give us clues to who has been in the woods. Join park staff at 10 a.m. for an investigative hike on our trails to look for scat and learn the basics of how to identify other animal signs, tracks and markings. At the end of our journey participants make a plaster cast of an animal footprint to take home. Register online.

Fee: $3

December 12: Year-End Celebration
Instead of an outing in December, we will have a End-of-Year celebration in the Becker Room at the Ethical Society at 2 pm on the 12th. We will have games, light snacks and cake, hand out badges, and celebrate another successful year.

Please wear your Navigators shirts (green or blue) and sashes.

There are more details in the flyer.

December 19: Good Cheer Add-on
We have the opportunity to help set up and decorate the tables at the Ethical Society in preparation for the annual Good Cheer holiday festival. 9 – 10:30 a.m. in the Becker Room at the Ethical Society. Contact Krystal White (kwhite@micds.org) with questions and/or to RSVP.

Reminder: An add-on is an event that some families in Navigators might attend, but not an event for which we are having a formal presence. If you know of other events that might be fun for Navigators, please let us know, and we will advertise them and add them to our calendar.

2016 Schedule
We have made tentative plans for Outing ideas through to the end of 2016, but we need help implementing these ideas. Please look at the list and choose a month that your family can help lead the activities. This can involve making reservations, planning activities, devising a General Meeting plan connected to the Outing, etc.

You will not be alone – you would be working in co-ordination with our Co-Leaders, but we need all the families to get involved. As a reminder, here are the tentative outing plans for the year:

  • January – Aviation
  • February – Cabin Camping
  • March – Visit a religious community
  • April – Caving Camping
  • May – Cahokia Mounds
  • June -Climbing Camping
  • July – Floating Camping
  • August – River cleanup service project
  • September – Foodbank
  • October – Cabin Camping
  • November – Radio or TV station
  • December – End-of-Year

General Meetings
December
We are not planning on having a General Meeting in December. Enjoy your holidays!
Spring
We have penciled in the following dates on the SEEK calendar for our General Meetings in Spring 2016:

  • January 17
  • February 21
  • March 20 (This is during SEEK Spring Break, but we will still meet)
  • April 17
  • May 15

Please add these to your calendar or subscribe to our Google Calendar (HTML iCal) to keep these planned.

Organization
Seeking a Co-Leader
The minutes from the meeting last week prematurely reported a third leader who would be joining Haley Pepper and Andy Ford. Unfortunately, she had to back out. So, we are still seeking a third co-leader to work with Haley and Andy. Please let us know if you are willing and able to do this, or if you are considering it an have some questions.

Badge Information Resource

Haley Pepper, our Junior Navigator leader, has created a new online resource for parents to prepare for the upcoming year and to learn about our badges. Please check out Navigators USA Chapter 33 Badge Headquarters. Let us know if you have questions.

Fundraising
The National organization for Navigators USA is running its first-ever nationwide fundraising campaign. Please consider donating through our Chapter’s page, if you are able. Also, our Chapter was well-represented in the Navigators USA promotional video.

January Council Meeting
Our next Council meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am on January 10 in the Nursery School Green Room. All are welcome to observe and comment.
