Sunday Events at the Ethical Society of St. Louis
Through ideas, music, and people, the Sunday Platform meetings inspire a sense of purpose and community. These Sunday morning gatherings give us a chance to pause in our ordinary daily activities and meet with people in the community to reflect on the direction of and challenges in our lives. The full Sunday-morning schedule is observed from September to May, with slight abbreviations during the summer.
Regular Sunday events:
- Forum (9:45 - 10:45 a.m.): A program varied
with speakers, films, and discussions on social, political, family,
community, and economic issues.
- Colloquy (9:45 - 10:45 a.m.): A communal
self- and mutual-exploration helping participants to develop the habit
of reflection and to find inspiration to live in closer conformity to
their beliefs.
- Parent Talk (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.): A round-table
discussion about parenting among Ethical Society members and visitors.
- Sunday School (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.):
A classroom-based introduction to ethics, ethical culturalism, and our
place in the world, for children ages 2-18. Nursery care is available
for infants and young toddlers.
- Platform (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.):
A program combining musical selections with presentations by guest speakers,
Ethical Society members, or the Society Leader on ethical and societal
issues.
- Social Hour (12:00 - 1:00 p.m.): A coffee hour during which
members and visitors can chat and sign-up opportunities for events and
activities.
- Visitors' Open House (12:15 p.m.): Although visitors are welcome
to attend all Sunday events listed above, this provides an opportunity
for visitors to learn in a small-group setting about
the Society, Ethical Culture, and
membership.
- Art show (9:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.): The
Society's Art Committee produces six to seven exhibits of local artists
each year. You can see the current exhibit in the Society gallery.
Occasional Sunday events:
- Festivals: Several Sundays throughout the year are designated for special events that celebrate the seasons.
- First Sunday Lunch: On the first Sunday of each month, a group within the Society sponsors an inexpensive luncheon for members and guests, which takes place during the social hour.
