The Ethical Society of St. Louis is always looking for volunteers to participate in various social service groups, the Board of Trustees, and various committees.

Board and Committees:

  • Aesthetics Committee This committee maintains and improves the aesthetic values of our facility on all aspects of decor and landscaping. The committee is a diverse group; it consists of several design professionals representing a variety of fields, as well as some lay persons who have worked with design professionals and who have shown aesthetic sensitivity. This is a subcommittee of Building and Grounds.
  • Board of Trustees The Board of Trustees is responsible for all matters of Society policy and planning, and for the management and allocation of Society resources including all staff, facilities and finances.
  • Building and Grounds Committee This committee was established to assure the soundness of the building and its systems; to maintain the grounds and retain and improve the aesthetic values of the facility; and to initiate changes necessary to improve the efficiency and utility of the facility. This committee report directly to the Board of Trustees. Audio-visual, Aesthetics, Art, and Flowers are all Building and Grounds subgroups.
  • Committee of Concern The purpose of the Committee of Concern is to connect with society members who are ill or who have a need for support.
  • Development Committee This committee develops plans for and promotes new and existing fundraising activities to provide income for the Society's operating budget at a level negotiated with the Finance Committee each year, to raise awareness of members about the importance of large donations/bequests, and promote and provide recognition of same, and to assist members and friends with estate planning strategy and provide opportunities to make significant contributions to the future of the Ethical Society of St. Louis.
  • eSociety Committee This committee is responsible for the technology at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, including maintaining of the Society's website and providing support for the staff in the area of information technology, keeping the computers and networks operating properly, and providing the automated tools for the staff of the Society to do their work effectively.
  • Ethical Action Committee The Ethical Action Committee, one of the largest committees in the Society, promotes and coordinates ethical social action between the Society and the surrounding community. Subcommittees of the Ethical Action Committee embrace a diversity of political and social viewpoints, including gun control, crime prevention, homeless and poverty issues, and environmental causes.
  • Ethical Education Committee (EEC) The purpose of the Ethical Education Committee is to support and direct children's ethical education, and to provide support to the Ethical Society of St. Louis Sunday School. Parent Talk, Coming of Ages, and Youth Group are subcommittees of EEC.
  • Finance Committee The Finance Committee is responsible for all aspects of managing and protecting the financial resources of the Society. This committee is chaired by the Ethical Society Treasurer.
  • Humanist of the Year Award Committee The Humanist of the Year Committee exists to solicit nominations for this annual award, to evaluate all supporting materials, to select the award recipient, and to organize the Humanist Sunday ceremony and luncheon.
  • Membership Committee The purpose of the Membership Committee is to create and implement services to welcome, inform, educate, recognize, integrate and support society members -- prospective, new and current. Visitors' Open House, Greeters, Young Ethicals, Ambassadors, and Ushers are subgroups of the Membership Committee
  • Music Committee The Music Committee acts as a support for the music program and our Music Director, and as a conduit between the membership and the music program. The Chorus is a subgroup of the Music Committee. The Chrous is a subgroup of the Music Committee.
  • Personnel Committee The Personnel Committee serves to represent the Society in formulating staff policy, to serve in an advisory capacity to the Leader and the Head of Staff, and to serve as a resource for employees in the event of a conflict. Reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
  • Platform Speaker Committee The Platform Speaker Committee was formed to provide assistance to the Leader in obtaining speakers for the Sunday morning Platform.
  • Program Council The Program Council is responsible for the management and coordination of the programs and services offered by the Society to its members and the community at large.
