Doing our part to create a more just and loving world for all mandates a strong commitment on the part of Ethical Societies and their members to their communities. Historically, the Ethical Society of St. Louis has enriched its region by sponsoring educational outreach programs, fostering efforts at promoting civil rights and diversity, and supporting inner-city programs intended to bolster social services in St. Louis City. Today, our leader sits on the council of the Interfaith Alliance of Greater St. Louis, a coalition of St. Louis religious leaders. And in 2000, Society members joined with Mentor St. Louis to instill a love of learning in and provide support to young students at Dunbar Elementary School.
Ethical Action
The Ethical Society has a long and distinguished history of service both to Ethical Culture and to the general community. There are opportunities to put take ethical action within the Society and externally.
- Donation Boxes: The Ethical Society maintains several boxes for donations to various causes.
- Groups Internal to the Society: These groups promote and coordinate ethical social action between the Society and the surrounding community.
- Groups External to the Society: While some of these groups promote and coordinate ethical social action in the surrounding community, others do so worldwide.
Society Opportunities
Opportunities exist to get involved within the Society itself. Volunteers are always needed for our social service groups, as well as our Board and many committees.
- Social Service Groups: These groups provide a service to the Society in a social way, such as hosting events, greeting members and visitors before a Sunday Platform, helping people find seats at the Platform, teaching or advising in the Sunday School, etc.
- Board and Committees: The Board of Trustees and the committees are responsible for various areas of the Society and help to keep it running smoothly
